Dr. Harold Brackman’s Report

Historian and Simon Wiesenthal Center consultant Dr. Harold Brackman, has authored Europe and the Jews 2012: Dramatic Rise in Anti-Jewish, Anti-Israel Prejudice detailing the current crisis in Europe.

Covering anti-Semitic hate crimes, Holocaust denial, anti-Zionism, extreme right and left anti-Jewish and anti-Israel conspiracies, and listing country-specific trends, the newest report details the current crisis in Europe and finally concludes with what can be done to combat the growth of anti-Semitism and Jew hatred in Europe today.

This is very troublesome, and for these trends to continue all it takes, as the period prior to the Holocaust has proven, is for ordinary people to turn a blind eye and do nothing for evil and hatred like this to prosper and flourish. I’m reminded of the following words of Pastor Martin Niemoeller: “In Germany,” he wrote, “they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak.” I hope and pray that there will be enough people of good will around the world who do speak up and act against such evil and hatred to reverse these troublesome trends.

The depraved United Nations

On September 20, the vast majority of the 192 member countries of the United Nations will probably “recognize” a Palestinian state.

The “recognition” will not be accompanied with caveats about dismantling PA terrorist organizations such as Al- Aksa Martyrs Brigades or ending the incitement to hatred and murder of Jews and Israelis that pervades all levels of Palestinian society. There will be no requirements for demilitarization. Nor will negotiations by the PA to unite with the genocidal Hamas be curtailed. The Palestinians will not be obliged to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and will continue demanding the Arab right of return to it.

Renewal of negotiations with Israel are unlikely because the Palestinians realize that their goals can be more effectively achieved by leveraging international pressure on us to make further unilateral concessions – and dismantle us in stages.

This event will be followed by Durban III, a UN endorsed hate fest designed to delegitimize and demonize the Jewish state. The principal participant will be Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who recently predicted that the UN recognition of Palestinian statehood would represent the first step toward the inevitable elimination of the Jewish state. Like the preceding meetings in 2001 and 2009, this purportedly “anti-racist conference” will overwhelmingly concentrate on spewing venom against Israel.

The founders of the United Nations, who after the defeat of Nazism endorsed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, could never have visualized that the organization they created would become controlled by dictatorships and tyrannies and transformed into a platform for promoting genocide.

Holocaust denial and antisemitism

Holocaust denial and anti-Semitic act of hatred very troublesome

Recently, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre carried out an e-mail petition campaign against Roman Catholic bishop, Richard Williamson, who denies that any Jews perished in gas chambers during the Holocaust. Most troublesome is Pope Benedict XVI’s reinstating of Williamson and the Vatican’s act of blocking the e-mail petition. After Vatican II’s outstanding work of reconciliation between the Jewish people and the RC Church, this is certainly a huge step backwards. The pope needs to take immediate action to reverse his decision, discipline Williamson, and issue an official apology to the Jewish people. Anything less would be a contradiction to the Second Vatican Council.

In another act of anti-Semitic hatred, fuelled by the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez; last Friday at about 10:00 P.M. until 3:00 A.M. Saturday morning, the Caracas Jewish synagogue was vandalized by hoodlums who desecrated it with anti-Semitic slogans. The Jewish community was so fearful that they did not even attend synagogue last Sabbath.
