Thanks, Garth, for this sermon on the meaning and importance of faith. Your illustrations about couples having faith despite (temporary) infertility were good. Both of my daughters had great difficulty in getting pregnant, and both rather “miraculously” did after many years–and now my older daughter became a grandmother this year and my younger daughter’s only child, my grandson Carl, has just started high school in Arizona where they live (and where school starts early in the fall).
But prayers are not always answered. My pastor and her husband, who are in their forties now, tried for years to get pregnant and sought various medical help–but all to no avail. But by faith they channel their “parental” instincts into nurturing the children of the church, as well as serving as spiritual leaders for us adults.
Thanks, Leroy, for sharing about your daughters, their families, and your pastors. I too have known about other couples who had similar experiences.
As for prayers, well I think they are answered, however in some cases perhaps not in the ways that we would like or expect. God’s “no” might, in the end, be a blessing, and open one or more doors in one or more different ways.
